On September 11, 2001, I was a sophomore at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School enrolled in a black and white Film Photography course. Like many my age, I didn’t fully understand the magnitude of what occurred that morning or how the world would change.

After school I heard on the news that the Loop had been evacuated, then naively threw my camera in the car and drove downtown to bear witness the quiet stillness that would encumber my city.

I couldn’t have known then that my professional future would be dedicated to taking care of skyscrapers — or how deeply I’d come to love them.
